The City of Calgary is following through on commitments to enhance public transportation for Calgarians.
As part of the long-range plan to extend CTrain stations to accommodate four-car trains, the CTrain stations at City Hall and 3 Street SE will be closed for construction starting Monday, May 3, 2010. The City hall station is being rebuilt while the 3 Street SE CTrain station will close permanently.
The work is part of the 7 Avenue LRT refurbishment project. Two new “twinned” CTrain platforms will be constructed on both sides of the 7 Avenue between Macleod Trail and 3 Street SE. The new platforms are scheduled to open by June 2011.
The new platforms will accommodate future four-car trains and will be more pedestrian friendly, with wider sidewalks integrated directly into each platform, improved lighting, and enhanced streetscapes between stations.
Calgary Transit customers are advised to use Olympic Plaza and Centre Street CTrain stations until the new platforms open for service.
