Peace Officers reduce LRT car thefts

Here is an article in The Calgary Sun about the efficacy of a pilot program introducing eight peace officers on bikes at LRT stations.

Transit reports that between January and the end of April, the number of vehicles stolen from lots was down 82% over the same time frame in 2009, before the mountain bike unit was in operation, and auto crime was also down 65%.

You can read reporter Jenna McMurray's full article Here.

What are your thoughts, do these bike officer's presence make a difference to your CTrain commute?

  1. Bike officers don't make a bit of difference on the LRT downtown.

The hours for the Peace Officers also leave alot to be desired. They are really needed after 10pm (2200) until the end of service when the vagrants and noisy partyers come out but it ends up that they are doing their thing around supper time or on Saturday during the day. Most of them are at stations, not on the LRT itself.
