City requests input from citizens on land for sale

Ever looked at a vacant lot and thought, "I know what they could put in there."

We know it happens, and now The City of Calgary wants to hear your ideas regarding a couple of these locations. The Office of Land Servicing & Housing is asking the public for their input by releasing a Request For Information (RFI).

This RFI pertains to two pieces of land The City has for sale as a result of the road widening on 16 ave north . The locations are: Site A: 107 16th Avenue NW and 1613 Centre A Street NE and Site B: 201 16th Avenue NE and 215 16th Avenue NE. This RFI is open for public input until 4:00 p.m., on March 25.

People interested in submitting ideas can do so in various ways, including formal channels at The City's Supply Management department; more information on those can be found here. However, less formal submissions can be made by commenting on this blog. We will pass comments and suggestions to the Office of Land Servicing & Housing.

To get more information about properties The City has for sale visit calgary.ca/realestate or to learn more about how to do business with The City visit calgary.ca/bids. You can also learn more about Calgary's sustainable growth plans by visiting calgary.ca/mdp or calgary.ca/tbl. Additional information regarding growth and development in the 16th Avenue North Urban Corridor Area Redevelopment Plan can be accessed here.

After you have a look at the information on the sites make your suggestions on what would be the perfect attraction for the area here.

  1. Both of these sites would make great skateboard parks. Centrally located, lots of transportation, and high traffic/visibility.

  2. We tend to agree with Calgary Skateboarding and think that both these sites would make great skateboard parks. This is our suggestion. Please consider this when making your decision. We need to give our athletes more opportunities to develop their skills in this sport.

  3. I would like to echo what Calgary Skateboarding expressed. No question these locations would be great for skate parks. And parks are something that Calgary very much lacks

  4. Following suit, I would also like to recommend that these locations be utilized for skatepark terrain. This is definitely an area of outdoor-recreation that needs improvement in the city and these sites are perfect for the expansion.

  8. A new skateboard park would be a great use of the land. Calgary is far behind many other cities when it comes to having facilities for skateboarders. This would be a great start.

  11. This would be an excellent location for a skateboard park, both in the size of the land, and the area it is located in. It would be refreshing to see a local park in this area instead of more buildings and store fronts. A new skatepark would be a lasting, positive addition to the city of Calgary.

  12. Either spot would make a prime location for a new skateboard park. This is something Calgary has been needing for a long time.

  13. This land would be extrordinary for our younger youth to gain better knowledge and leadership for a "indoor" skateboarding park. It is a healthy and fun activity that would be used to the fullest. Please consider this recomendation.

  14. The two facilitys would be especially great for a indoor skateboarding park, considering the fact that Calgary lacks skateboarding parks across Canada and that our younger generations will have a safe enviroment to become succesful leaders in our city.

  15. Both look like great spots for skateboard parks. Being on extremely busy roads, it's not an ideal location for any type of greenspace, so one or two small skateboard parks with protective barriers surronding it (and also added to the obstacles) would be a great use of the space and would seriously revamp that area of the city.
