Green Calgary, in partnership with The City of Calgary, is holding its annual Rain Barrel and Composter sale on Saturday, May 14 from 9-11 a.m.
Available in three locations throughout the city:
Cash, cheque, Mastercard and Visa will be accepted on site.
For more event information, about rain barrels or composters please visit www.greencalgary.org or www.calgary.ca/waterservices.
One in 4 Calgarians has a Rain Barrel.
A rain barrel is easy to install, use and maintain.
“Three great things happen when you use a rain barrel: you have a free source of soft, non-chlorinated water – perfect for your garden, you reduce your water bills and you help conserve water,” says Heather Hendrie, Public Program Coordinator with The City of Calgary.
Two rain barrel models will be available at the Green Calgary sale. These barrels are repurposed food grade, and made by a small local business.
Price at Green Calgary Sale: Starting at $60
Composters help Mother Nature do her work.
“Composting is an easy way for Calgarians - young and old - to help reduce their environmental footprint. Plus, the resulting compost, which is rich in organic matter, helps return many of the soil properties that can be lost over time,” says Lindsay Lofthouse, Waste Diversion Specialist with The City of Calgary.
Composting is one solution to help reduce the greenhouse gases produced by our landfills. When food and yard waste biodegrade in an oxygen-rich environment, like a composter, Mother Nature can do her work.
Price at Green Calgary Sale: $35 each
