Calgary Transit has rolled out the green carpet for environmentalism.
Marking the annual Emerald Awards for environmental leadership, the Alberta Emerald Foundation has given a CTrain car the full treatment.
The exterior of the car has been wrapped and all advertising within the car has been booked by the Foundation. But it has gone further than any previous advertiser by laying down an emerald green carpet in the car, in celebration of this month’s annual awards.
“We were pleased to have been selected by the Foundation to implement this public awareness program,” said Stephen Hansen, Calgary Transit’s manager of safety and security at the train's unveiling on June 8.
David Day, Director of Environmental and Safety Management for The City of Calgary and the immediate past-Chair of the Foundation, said: “The importance of the Emeralds is recognized throughout our organization, both as a way to promote and recognize environmental responsibility, and as a tangible way to salute the efforts of our staff.
"For the past decade, The City of Calgary has joined a growing number of Alberta governmental and business organizations that actively support the Alberta Emerald Foundation, and this is helping build greater public awareness of the value of a positive environmental approach across our province,” said Day.
Since the Emerald Award program was launched 20 years ago, there have been 55 winners from Calgary.
The car will remain in service with the green carpet until June 25.
