Rick Hansen 25th anniversary relay coming to Calgary
One hundred and forty-one Calgarians will take part as medal bearers for the relay on February 26th and 27th.
Like Rick Hansen, these Calgarians are difference makers in their own right. The final medal bearer for Calgary will be Journey Wheatley. Journey is one of thirteen children and adults in her family with a rare disorder causing chronic pain and joint issues, which hasn’t stopped this youngster from spreading love and having an optimistic outlook.
The Calgary portion of the Rick Hansen 25th anniversary relay will end with an End of Day Celebration at the Stampede Grounds at 2:30 p.m. Rick Hansen will be joined by Mayor Naheed Nenshi as well as the Calgary Stampeder’s Keon Raymond. A special performance by the Young Canadians choir will also take place.
Calgarians are urged to come out and support this 12,000 kilometer relay which celebrates over 7,000 participants from across Canada who have worked to make a difference in the lives of others.
The relay will involve a rolling road closure - plan ahead by visiting The City's newsroom.
