Calgary Metal Recycling incident - Ogden Road to re-open

Two northbound and one southbound lane(s) of Ogden Road S.E. from Bonnybrook Road S.E. to 38 Ave S.E. will re-open this morning at 7 a.m. following a more than week-long closure to facilitate the operation of the Calgary Metal Recycling incident. Transit routes will re-open on Ogden Road as of 7:30 a.m., however, bus stops between Bonnybrook Road and 38 Ave will remain closed until further notice.

Closing Ogden Road was necessary to facilitate the operation and to protect pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

Significant progress has been made at the site in the last few days, lessening the use of heavy vehicles to facilitate the removal of debris. Citizens are reminded that the site is still active and caution should be used in the area.

Crews from City of Calgary Water Works and Roads worked through the night to ensure the road could open before the rush-hour commute.

While the incident is moving from response to recovery, overhaul and clean-up will continue for coming days. At this time, the Municipal Emergency Plan remains activated.
