First responders, STARS, HAWCs, and more at the third annual Disaster Alley event

Where else can you see demonstrations by firefighters and emergency responders rappelling off a building, or check out the STARS and HAWCs helicopters close up, other than the 2012 Disaster Alley?

Disaster Alley is a FREE family event that focuses on individual and family preparedness, as well as showcasing first responders and other agencies that assist in an emergency or disaster.

The event will be held on May 12, 2012, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Fire Training Academy (5727 – 23 Ave. S.E. – near Elliston Park).

“This is a great way for people to get close to and learn about emergency responders and others who assist in emergencies and disasters – without actually having to be in a disaster! It is important that people understand what a disaster can be like in order to be prepared for the real thing,” say Deputy Chief Tom Sampson of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency.

Disaster Alley marks the culmination of Emergency Preparedness Week (May 6 – 12, 2012), which is designed to create a culture of preparedness in Canada.

Disaster Alley features:
  • HAWCs and STARS Helicopters
  • Calgary Fire Department
  • Calgary Police Service Tactical units, K9 unit, and Mounted unit Dive Rescue Teams
  • Heavy Urban Search and Rescue – CANTF2
  • Calgary Transit
  • ATCOGas
  • Red Cross
  • Water Services ... and many more !
