Do you know a 15 or 16 year-old that’s entering the workforce?
It can be challenging finding work with no experience and no contacts. The obstacles to finding employment can be a powerful deterrent to getting started, that’s why the Youth Employment Centre is hosting Jump $tart.
The program had a very successful launch last year. Twenty-four youth participated in 2011. One participant commented after his experience, “I feel like I know how apply for jobs - and get one!” which is supported by that fact that currently twelve previous participants have found employment.
Jump $tart is a free work preparation program for 15 and 16 year-olds looking to develop their employment skills and gain experience. The program involves workshops, training, career exploration, workplace tours and a 25-hour, hands-on work exploration opportunity.
Two separate sessions will take place this summer from July 9-27 and August 7-24 at the Youth Employment Centre. Interested youth can complete an application form online before 4 p.m. on May 31.
Youth are also invited to check out Jump $tart’s blog written by last year’s participants.
An information night is being held for youth and parents on Tuesday, May 29, from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Youth Employment Centre.
