Update on Calgary Metal Recycling incident

Update: May 2, 7:30 a.m.

The City of Calgary, along with multiple agency partners, continues to monitor and attend to the fire incident at 3415 Ogden Road SE.

Ogden Road directly in front of the Calgary Metals property will be closed. Limited access to local area businesses will be maintained. This closure is anticipated to remain in place throughout the day Wednesday.

Transit detours for routes 24 and 302 remain in effect.

We continue to monitor air quality in the area. Currently, air quality levels are normal, and businesses in the area will be allowed to re-open. If conditions change, emergency services will alert those impacted businesses.

Update: May 1, 7 p.m.

Ogden Road from Bonnybrook Road to 38 Ave. SE remains closed. This closure is anticipated to remain in place throughout Tuesday evening and Wednesday. Transit detours for routes 24 and 302 remain in effect.

We continue to monitor air quality in the area. The two businesses that were closed today as a precautionary measure will be spot checked for air quality issues and assessed early tomorrow morning for whether they are able to re-open.

A multi-agency team has been working together to monitor and address this situation, including The Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Emergency Management Agency, Alberta Environment, Customer Service & Communications, Roads, Calgary Police Services, Infrastructure Information Services, Alberta Health Services, Water, as well as building owners and contractors.

We thank all Calgarians for their patience as we continue to work together to resolve the situation.
