Theresa Schroder, Communications Strategist for Calgary Transit, talks about the new CNG buses.
On Tuesday, March 12, Calgary Transit will be putting two new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses into service on routes 72/73. This is part of a 12-15 month pilot to test how this type of bus performs and functions in Calgary, especially in Calgary’s climate.
CNG buses are less expensive to operate as natural gas prices are about 30 per cent lower than diesel costs and are up to 10 times quieter than diesel engines.
Calgary Transit will take delivery of two additional CNG buses in May as part of the pilot.
