311 Calgary mobile app tops iTunes chart

On Wednesday afternoon The City’s 311 app was the number one download on iTunes Free Utilities Apps.

Unveiled yesterday, “the 311 Calgary mobile app is only one of the steps we’re taking to improve interactions with citizens, “said 311 Citizen's Services Manager, Terry Pearce.

In 2005, The City of Calgary was the first municipality in Canada to launch a 311 Operation Centre. Continually adding services over the years, 311 has grown beyond a traditional call centre to include 311 online and now a mobile application. Each improvement provides Calgarians with another way to connect with The City anytime, anywhere and on any device.

  1. The city agents close requests before they are dealt with and don't say why. All it ever says is "Closed with status:Submitted via Android" and the problem persists. The success of this app is based on users and city staff communicating. Agents are closing requests which aren't actually completed with no reasoning for closing them.

    1. Hi there. In many cases we will add comments to the request file however they are not displayed on the app. We suggest providing your email address in the reporter section to track the resolution of the request. With a valid email, we can send you a link to see additional information that City crews may provide on the status of your request.

E.g. Request to prune a tree may be closed with comments that it will be pruned in spring when tree is capable of being pruned.
