City Matters: Drop off spring yard waste for free at City landfills until June 2

It’s that time of year when Calgarians are getting their yards prepared for the warm months ahead. In spring, up to 50 per cent of our garbage consists of compostable yard waste like branches, leaves and plants.

When waste goes to the landfill, it’s starved of oxygen and can’t biodegrade into compost. Instead, it releases carbon dioxide and methane gas. Rather than throw away this natural resource, Calgarians can compost yard waste for free at any City landfill until June 2.
