The City’s recreation team has been working hard to get back to full strength, and they are finally there!
Southland and Village Square Leisure Centres are now open to the public again. Both had been closed to house evacuees during the flood. Glenmore Reservoir is also open again and the Beltline Aquatic Centre will be opening July 2 at 6:30 a.m.
With those four re-openings, all recreation facilities in Calgary are once again open to the public. All scheduled summer programming offered by the City is on track to be provided.
It has been a busy week for Recreation staff as they have not only been working to respond to the flood and host hundreds of evacuees needing shelter, but they also held multiple free children’s day camps and managed to pull together all of Calgary’s typical Canada Day celebrations!
While there is still a long way to go before life in Calgary gets back to normal, this is just one more step towards restoring the services that Calgarians value.
