Update: 608 7 Street SW

Chief Building Official, Marco Civitarese provides an update regarding the ongoing investigation at 608 7 Street SW, following further debris falling over the weekend.

The City’s Safety Response Unit remains onsite monitoring the situation. The City has directed the property owner and their engineering firm to begin work to secure and stabilize the east wall of the building. Work could commence as early as today, with temporary cladding being installed at the site. Work to begin removing bricks from the top to the bottom will begin once all safety measures are in place.

The City remains focused on re-establishing public safety at this site, and thanks Calgarians for their ongoing patience and understanding during the remedial work.

  1. It has been 4 full days since the cycle track has been closed and the city has done nothing to even try to put up a detour. This is dangerous for cyclists, especially those turning north onto 7th Street SW from 8th Avenue SW. A simple sign on 8th Ave SW directing cyclists to 8th St SW would be sufficient, but the city has done nothing. It's an accident waiting to happen.

    1. We're currently working on a detour plan than will accommodate cyclists and pedestrians in this area. This plan will be implemented shortly. We’re working closely with a number of public and internal stakeholders to ensure this is done safely. Thank you for your patience.
