With the anniversary of the 2013 flood approaching, Calgarians are reflecting on the events of the past year. Over the next three weeks, this blog will feature a series of video and written highlights of The City’s response, ongoing recovery efforts and the road ahead.
This series opens with a look inside the Emergency Operations Centre, where the Calgary Emergency Management Agency coordinated the City business units and external partner agencies that oversaw every aspect of The City’s flood response.
We’ll share stories such as how Calgary’s drinking water remained potable throughout the flood without restrictions being put into place; how Animal & Bylaw Services ensured our furry friends were kept safe - even accommodating some unexpected guests from the Calgary Zoo; and we’ll let the numbers tell the story of how workers across the organization came together to keep essential services intact.
These stories will lead us up to the 2013 Flood Commemoration event that will take place on Friday, June 20 and will be streamed live on this blog.
In addition to these stories, you can find 2013 flood facts, figures and photos on calgary.ca/floodinfo.
