Save the date to Celebrate '88!

February 13th marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympic Games.

To celebrate the legacy, the Olympic Oval is hosting celebrations on Feb. 13 beginning at 11:30 a.m. with Celebrate ’88 – Reignite the Spirit ― a ceremonial torch relay and lighting of the refurbished Olympic cauldron.

The event will feature key personalities from the ‘88 games, including Dr. Roger Jackson and Frank King, along with past and present Oval athletes and Olympic medalists Kristina Groves and Catriona LeMay-Doan.

University of Calgary President Elizabeth Cannon and Mayor Naheed Nenshi will lead the ceremonies, which will also feature a special proclamation that Feb. 13 is now officially Olympic Legacy Day in the City of Calgary.

At 6 p.m., everyone is invited back to the Olympic Oval for the Celebrate ’88 - Legacy Skate ― an ‘80s themed public skate featuring athlete autographs, pin trading (including 1,000 free Oval 25th Anniversary pins), Tim Horton’s coffee, a chance to pose with an Olympic torch and Heidi and Howdy. All of this is set to an ‘80s soundtrack created by DJ Rob Faust. Free parking will be available in Lot 10.
