Site preparation begins at the Quarry Park recreation facility

Southeast residents and businesses will now see activity at the new Quarry Park recreation facility site as crews prepare the land for upcoming construction.

“This is the start of a major milestone not just for The City, but for the surrounding communities who are one step closer to having the central hub for sport, leisure and social gatherings they are in great need of,” says Rob McAuley, manager of the New Recreation Facilities project.

“And we could not have done it without all the input and support received from the community members who have been actively involved with our Community Advisory Group.”

Quarry Park recreation facility rendering (subject to change)
With stripping and grading officially underway, Calgarians will begin to see heavy equipment and workers at 108 Quarry Park Rd. S.E. This first part of activity is expected to take two to three months and will prepare the land by removing excess earth and levelling the site.

The approximately 100,00 square foot facility will be operated by YMCA and will include amenities such as a fitness centre, running track, gymnasium, aquatics, daycare and the Calgary Public Library. Doors are scheduled to open in 2015.

This is the one of four new recreation facilities in development by The City of Calgary, including two more in the southeast in Great Plains and Seton, and one in the northwest in Rocky Ridge. These new recreation facilities will provide great spaces to play, learn, grow and connect and are a vital component in developing active, vibrant and complete communities.
