Open data catalogue to be piloted

Today, Calgary City Council passed a recommendation to pilot a public data catalogue later this fall.

The concept is to promote transparency and also to promote innovation and reuse of the data. This follows similar projects in Vancouver, Toronto and Edmonton.

“We haven’t decided what data would be made available to start, but we will focus on information that is already publicly accessible just not in a reuseable format”, says Heather Reed-Fenske, Manager in Information Technology.

The City will engage citizens in recommending both the types of data sets and formats that would be most useful. Stay tuned, more to come.

  2. Let you know that Calgary.ca/reports to Calgary program on T.V. is very interested and good information but there are no Closed Caption on them because most deaf people and also I am deaf pure Calgarian dont understand without the Closed Caption. Thank you for taking your time to get more knowledge about deaf Calgarians. DM

  3. Hi Anonymous October 1:
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I just spoke to our Marketing team here at The City and we were not unaware of this issue. They will be contacting Global Television (who produces them) to see if we can add closed captioning to our Report to Calgarians.
