Celebrate Canada Day with The City's Canada Day App

There are a tonne of Canada Day activities planned in Calgary this year and what better way to stay on top of what’s happening than from your iPhone or iPad? You can download The City of Calgary Canada Day *app to  navigate the different sites, stay connected with friends through Facebook and Twitter (#OCanadaYYC) to share how you’re spending Canada Day, create an online postcard, and try your hand at Canadian trivia.

This year’s Canada Day celebrations are a true community event. Expanding to more sites and inviting many of our community partners to come out and celebrate with us, The City of Calgary wants all Calgarians to find a way to take part. Whether it’s enjoying the music and interactive activities at Prince’s Island Park, creating a picnic basket with fresh produce from local farmers at the CALGARY EATS! event at Olympic Plaza, experiencing the energy and ambience on the RiverWalk, getting on your bike at the Park & Pedal lots, or capping off the day by watching the spectacular fireworks show from Centre Street Bridge, there is something for everyone.

Prince’s Island Park will feature music, food and a variety of activities including an interactive scavenger hunt and the creation of a living flag. Three stages will provide a range of entertainment starting from 11 am to 11 pm.

CALGARY EATS! will see Olympic Plaza transform into the dining room of Calgary for Canada Day. Spend time gathering your favourite fruits, cheeses and baked goods from local vendors to create a nice picnic basket to enjoy by the banks of the river, let the kids get their hands dirty by learning how to plant a garden, or sit down for a nice meal from one of Calgary’s fine restaurants as you soak in the energy around you.

RiverWalk, Calgary’s newest outdoor playground will feature something for everyone. Hip hop and a poetry slam will take centre stage at the Youth Arts Stage on Riverfront avenue, with a wide range of activities and performances along the entire RiverWalk that will keep you entertained all day long. Celebrate Calgary’s designation of Cultural Capital of Canada as Calgary 2012 by taking part in their Sweet City Woman dance-beginners welcome!

Park & Pedal lots at Max Bell Arena and Pumphouse Theatre will make it simple and convenient for you and your family to experience Calgary’s award winning pathway system. Our REC 100 teams will be at these sites giving you all the info on they plan to celebrate cycling for the month of July.

After a full day of activity, sit back and watch the Calgary sky light up with fireworks launched from Centre Street Bridge. Whether you’re celebrating with us downtown or in your own backyard, it’s a perfect way to end the day.

Onward/ We are committed to our vision of an active, creative and vibrant city. I imagineCALGARY: 90 percent of Calgarians agree that there is a strong sense of community in Calgary, and at least 80 per cent of Calgarians report high levels of satisfaction, sense of belonging , attachment and civic pride.

*Due to budget and time considerations, we were only able to produce this application on the iOS platform. However, all of the pertinent event-related information contained within the app can be found on calgary.ca.
