School supplies still needed for City students in need

Three thousand more backpacks and school supplies are needed for local children-in-need.

The Staples for Education program is wrapping up this week and The City is about $5,000, or 300 backpacks short of our 2012 goal.

“Classes have started and there are still families who can’t afford to buy the required supplies to help their children start the new school-year off right,” says Carmen Marques, a Youth Social Worker with The City.

As of today, Staples has received $90,018 in donations that equals 2728 backpacks. The goal is $95,000, or about 3000 backpacks.

Sunday, September 15th is the cut-off date for donations, so charitable Calgarians have another week to help those in need.

The City of Calgary and Staples would like to thank the generous Calgarians who have made a donation to the 2012 campaign.
