Homeless in Calgary series; A vicious cycle

You’ve seen her on the streets before. She’s drunk, staggering all over the streets and yelling at passers-by.

Someone has called the police to complain about her, and officers are sent to respond. After talking to the homeless woman, the officers decide she’s probably safest staying at the Alpha House for the evening to sober up. But, she impolitely disagrees, and so continues a vicious cycle that lands her in a jail cell and through the revolving door of the justice system.

Did you know that 25 per cent of all arrestees in January 2012 were homeless? Many of them were also repeat offenders.
