Supported and guided by the Council-approved Centre City Plan (2007) and the Centre City Mobility Plan (2010), The City of Calgary is developing improvements for 8 Street S.W. between the Bow River and 17 Avenue. The goal of this plan is to create a strong vision for the corridor that enhances the pedestrian experience by focusing on improving areas such as sidewalks, street crossings and urban design. It will be the foundation for growing 8 Street S.W. as a liveable, caring and thriving place.
At the pedestrian level, the plan will reinforce, define and connect places along the corridor. It will find balance with all modes of movement including cycling, public transit, and road design. It will also consider existing at-grade businesses on 8 Street S.W., while including elements of social harmony that support future property developments.
