Sustainable Calgary: State of Our City report released

A report released every three years that tracks "Calgary's long-term health and vitality by using a set of sustainability indicators" has been released by Sustainable Calgary.

The key indicators, seperated into six groups - Community, Economic, Education, Natural Environment, Resource Use and Wellness - are meant to holistically provide information about Calgarian's quality of life.

According to the 2011 version, the fourth State of Our City report, it found that "worsening social and ecological deficits have resulted from two critical challenges: persistent inequality and sprawl. Other findings were: improved stewardship for the natural environment, unsustainable energy use, significant decreases in crime rates, and signs that our health status may have peaked."

Sustainable Calgary aims “to promote, encourage and support community level actions and initiatives that move Calgary towards a sustainable future."
