sorta useless to only make an app for one brand of phone thats not even the most used system out there. What about blackberry, android, windows mobile and nokia phone users as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. This iPhone app is part of a pilot test for The City of Calgary as far as mobile applications. According to studies by Admob, Nokia and RIM have a larger handset share than Apple, but Apple has a much larger share of the mobile/web app market, so we decided to start there.
ReplyDeleteStay tuned for more announcements about future mobile apps from The City.
Great first app. Glad you chose the iPhone version first (selfish reasons).
ReplyDeleteSome quick feedback. I was a little concerned about the slow loading on the initial start of the app. I'm glad this didn't happen again but it would be useful to warnt the user.
It had a lot of information for Calgary Civic Election voters (everything I was looking for except the stuff I can only get from the candidates themselves.
The only improvement would be if it used your location information (which it asks to use) to determine your Ward (based on where you are standing currently) and Polling Station.
Great app. Thanks!
"...Apple has a much larger share of the mobile/web app market"
ReplyDelete1. RIM/Blackberry has the largest smartphone market share on a per device basis.
2. You are right, Apple has the largest WEB APP market share...but who needs 10-15 fart apps? Apples numbers are a little misleading.
The City operates thousands of Blackberry devices and RIM is the world market leader of smartphones, why not leverage exisisting knowledge and local grown technology to create an apps for Blackberry's? Internal and external?
Anonymous October 12:
ReplyDeleteYou are correct that RIM has the largest share of the hand held market, there's no arguing that.
Your point is well taken, and will be taken into consideration as we move forward from this pilot test for mobile apps.
One of the other things that we will have to take into consideration is that many BlackBerry Devices are used for business purposes (and belong to the company, rather than the user) and therefore users are prohibited from downloading third party apps.
Stop being so hurt about them choosing iphone first. Like he said, it's a PILOT. You'll get your BB app soon enough.
